EcoDevo On A Roll
Stafford County Economic Development is an organization dedicated to the growth and development of the persons and businesses in the local area. With Director, Carolyn Dunn steering the way, Stafford County EcoDevo has accomplished many feats in the two years since its' formation.
In 2011, we were approved as a member of the E-Community, a program through NetWork Kansas that distributes tax credits as "micro-loans" in order to support and promote the growth of local businesses. The E-Community program has already been of assistance with the opening and sustenance of a handful of businesses in Stafford County.
Also in 2011, we held the first Entrepreneurship Contest of Stafford County, a contest which awarded two cash prizes to the best proposed business plans. The following year, the contest was held again, this time helping to open two new businesses, a gym and a day care center.
In the Fall of 2012, we received a specialty crop block grant from the Kansas Department of Agriculture, which allowed us to distribute five high tunnel green houses to applicants. Green houses that are to be used to grow and sell produce to local outlets, thus bringing business to Stafford County, and enhancing the availability of locally grown produce in Stafford County.
Since 2011, we have been granted great opportunities to leap forward in our vision for Economic Development. We keep pushing on, in hopes that the following years be as good as the past.
