2018

December
The Program Director attended the Western Kansas Rural Economic Development Alliance (wKREDA) quarterly conference in Harper.  The group toured Harper Industries (Dew-Eze flatbeds), discussed health insurance trends and heard from KDOT on the upcoming trend of utilizing drone technology. 

Members of the Board of Directors for Economic Development, a County Commissioner and EcoDevo staff toured warehouses and shared workspaces in Wichita to gather ideas for some potential projects in Stafford County.

Promotion of the Start Up Central Kansas/Ice House Entrepreneurship 8-week certificate program continued.  Class starts Wednesday, January 9th!
November
The first Young Professionals of Stafford County event took place at the Livery Stable in St. John.  Participants heard from insurance providers and toured Ag360 Insurance and Farm Bureau.

​Executive Director, Carolyn presented at the Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership (KARL) Conference in Greensburg about projects in Stafford County.

The 5th annual Giving Tuesday with Golden Belt Community Foundation took place on Tuesday, November 27th at Paul's Grocery in Stafford and White's Foodliner in St. John. 

The Program Director was asked to be a tradeshow judge at the Edwards County Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in Kinsley. 

October
The newly constructed Stafford County Marketplace opened on Wednesday, October 10th to the public. 

The Macksville Housing Authority began working with Economic Development to utilize some programs to do updates to the Evergreen Apartments.
September
Economic Development and White's Foodliner partnered to bring Kansas WorkforceOne's Mobile Unit to the new grocery store location for a hiring blitz day.
August
Developed a promotional video for Gray Photo Studio and AmeriCorps
July
The property in Hudson was once again rented out to a young individual that moved to the county. 

The 8th annual photography contest was held at the Stafford County Fair for County residents to submit photos of what it's like to Live, Work and Play in Stafford County.

Interviews for the AmeriCorps VISTA positions began.

The Program Director attended a 2-day Certified Non-Profit Accounting Professional Training in Great Bend hosted by Golden Belt Community Foundation.
June
Staff made homemade ice cream for the annual Stafford Chamber of Commerce ice cream social.

The Program Director attended the 2nd annual NetWork Kansas Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge Summit at Kansas State University to gather ideas for 2019.
May
The Executive Director attended the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) Conference in Kansas City where the newly implemented 2017 Federal Opportunity Zones were discussed.

The Program Director interviewed St. John High School seniors for their mock interview experience.

April
Staff attended the Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge at Kansas State University to support one Stafford County student that competed.
March
Eastern census tract in Stafford County designated as one of Governor Colyer's Opportunity Zones in the State of Kansas. For more information, click here.

Program Director, Ashlee Bevan attended the Kansas Leadership Center's You.Lead.Now. Conference in Wichita with five other Stafford County residents.  Golden Belt Community Foundation sponsored the registration of the attendees.

Nine Stafford County students from Stafford and St. John schools participated in the 3rd Annual Central Kansas Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge held in Kinsley. Stafford County students received 1st and 2nd place.
February
Executive Director, Carolyn Dunn testified in the Kansas Senate and House for a project sales tax exemption on materials and equipment for the Stafford County Marketplace. 

​On February 19th, EcoDevo hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Stafford County Marketplace at the construction site at the intersection of 5th Avenue and U.S. Highway 281 in St. John. 
January
Two slots are still available for the $100,000 Moderate Income Housing program that the County of Stafford was awarded in December of 2016. This grant provides a $25,000 down-payment for the construction of a new house within city limits of any Stafford County town.

Eco Devo announced the construction timeline for the Stafford County Marketplace that will open in September 2018.  Full-service grocery store and fuel station will be operated by White's Foodliner, and Stafford County Drug will be open in the south part of the facility with drive-thru access.
