This GivingTuesday, Stafford County Economic Development is raising funds to help county residents through their programming at Workspace 311.
GivingTuesday, taking place December 3rd, is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage giving and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Founded in 2012, GivingTuesday has inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in. Globally, people mobilize to show up, give back, and change their communities: creating a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day and touches every person on the planet. Last year, Stafford County EcoDevo joined the GivingTuesday movement as part of the Give Golden Belt campaign through Golden Belt Community Foundation. This year, Stafford County EcoDevo is focusing their campaign on a gift that keeps giving back. Workspace 311 is newly opened on Broadway in St. John. Stafford County residents can sign-up for programming at the space where gaining remote employment is the focus. “This season, we want to focus on helping local individuals build their skills to gain remote employment. Monetary donations could help individuals go through our programming. For instance, in the prep program participants build a resume, learn to market themselves, receive online account access to take advantage of career coaching and apply for jobs that will keep them right here in Stafford County,” said Stafford County EcoDevo Program Director, Ashlee Bevan. The cost of someone going through the prep program is around $550. A donation of $50 could help provide a year-long membership to FlexJobs. A donation of $100 could help provide a professional resume review through FlexJobs. And, a donation of $250 could help cover the cost of an individual in our remote work readiness program. “When GivingTuesday launched in the US in 2012, we believed that technology and social media could be used to make generosity go viral,” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO and co-founder. “We believed in the idea that people fundamentally want to give and to talk about giving; and that the social sector had the capacity to show more innovative leadership, creativity, and collaboration. People and organizations around the world proved us right. As we prepare for December 3, we’re energized and encouraged by the community’s generosity. The levels of creativity, effort and the quality of the new ideas people have contributed and shared are phenomenal.” Those who are interested in joining Stafford County EcoDevo’s GivingTuesday initiative can visit www.staffordecodevo.com For more details about the GivingTuesday movement, visit the GivingTuesday website (www.givingtuesday.org), Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/GivingTuesday) or follow @GivingTuesday and the #GivingTuesday hashtag on Twitter.
